Alabama: Phillip Rawls was the first to report that the Alabama Legislature was poised to award nearly $119,000 in wrongful incarceration money to a church pianist who was jailed for suffocating her newborn child. The charges were dropped when a study showed the child was stillborn. The legislature decided not to award the money after Rawls got an exclusive interview with the woman’s ex-husband, who said that while they were married, she had an affair and got pregnant, then hid the stillborn baby to try to keep the affair secret.
