The Associated Press today announced the addition of Writer Pictures as a new contributing partner for its commercial photo division, AP Images. Under the arrangement, the UK-based Writer Pictures will distribute their images via the AP Images website at www.apimages.com to users and AP customers globally.

AP Images, with a comprehensive archive of millions of images in entertainment, sports, news, archival and creative content, offers a high-quality custom photography assignment service for commercial entities in which public relations firms, corporations and others can commission photographers for non-editorial assignments, such as sponsored events or tradeshows.

"We're excited to work with what is one of the most unique and relevant collections in the business right now," AP Images Director of International Business Development James Claydon said. "Writer Pictures brings a fantastic resource of not just bestselling authors but playwrights and up-and-coming talent from the world of literature, as well as a phenomenal archive adding to the wealth of entertainment-related content that makes AP Images a key destination for media buyers."

Writer Pictures was set up in 2004 by Alex Hewitt and Graham Jepson, who spotted a gap in the market for good quality, colour images of writers. In the years since its launch, Writer Pictures has built a very respectable database of tens of thousands of author images and supplies all UK national newspapers with images on a daily basis. Writer Pictures is also trusted internationally to source and shoot pictures for magazines, publishers and the authors themselves. Writer Pictures also covers prominent literary events such as the Booker, Costa and Orange Prizes plus many literary festivals. They have offices in London and Edinburgh and a network of photographers throughout the UK, the USA and France.

"Graham and I are delighted to be working with AP as a worldwide syndication partner," Writer Pictures Managing Director Hewitt said. "To see the excellent portraiture of our contributors finally having the ability to reach an audience of this the size is a great culmination of our hard work on the library over the years and the forward thinking vision of AP. We hope that AP clients will be suitably impressed with the calibre of our modern portraiture and the breadth of our collection of portraits of literary figures."
