WHAT IS IT?
An annual five-day multicultural journalism workshop pairing
aspiring student journalists with mentors who are AP writers
and editors. The program will be held May 21-25, 2007.
AM I ELIGIBLE?
If you are a full-time sophomore, junior or senior at an American
college or university when you apply—yes, you are.
HOW MANY PARTICIPANTS ARE SELECTED?
Up to 12 students are selected for the program. Slots may
be available for broadcast, graphics and online journalism
students.
WHAT ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROGRAM?
You get to work with a mentor who is a professional journalist.
You will also receive job skills and career development training
from AP senior managers. All expenses are covered by AP.
WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM ME?
• A resume
• A portfolio of writing samples (at least three)
• A 500-word essay on why you would like to participate
• Two letters of recommendation, at least one from a
teacher or faculty adviser

Diverse Visions

pairing aspiring student photojournalists with mentors who
are AP photographers and editors. The program will be held
May 21-25, 2007.
AM I ELIGIBLE?
If you are a full-time junior, senior, or graduate student
at an American college or university when you apply—yes,
you are.
HOW MANY PARTICIPANTS ARE SELECTED?
Up to 12 photographers and two photo editors are selected.
Slots may be available for broadcast, graphics and online
journalism students.
WHAT ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROGRAM?
You get to work with a mentor who is a professional
photojournalist. Digital cameras and lenses are supplied.
Expenses are covered by AP. Diverse Visions is a feeder program
for the prestigious AP Photo Internship Program.
WHAT BECAME OF PAST PARTICIPANTS OF DIVERSE VISIONS?
Past participants have joined the staff of The Associated
Press and member papers including the Los Angeles Times, San
Jose Mercury News, Dallas Morning News, Newsday, Tucson Star
and many others.
WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM ME?
• A resume and cover letter
• A portfolio on a disk
• A 250-word essay on why you would like to pursue photojournalism
• Two letters of recommendation, at least one from a
teacher or faculty adviser.
