Downloading Files

After performing a search, you may wish to download a file to your computer for further use. Downloaded files may be:

• Imported into an image processing application for toning, cropping etc.
• Used in your local publications.
• Sent to a third party for review.
• Stored for long term archiving.

Downloading files is simple and can be done two ways:
1. Single files as well as groups of files may be downloaded using a Java Download Applet, but you must first have the proper user rights to download files.
2. Macintosh Users may opt to use a Simple Downloading method (selectable in the Preferences) that allows for Drag & Drop file downloads. This should be used with versions of Netscape Communicator that do not support the Java Download applet.

Downloading files

After you perform a search, the search results are displayed in the Search Results frame. You can download these images individually or in groups.

Batch Downloads: Click the checkbox to select one or more images, then click Download to Local under the Controls frame. All selected images will be downloaded (Max: 20 at a time). Single Downloads: Click the icon to download this file.

Next, you may be prompted to select the components to download (Thumbnail, Preview, IPTC text or the Source/HI_RES image). You may also select to see the download result status. Make your selection(s), then click Download.

Download Note: In some browsers, a Java Security window is displayed on download. If so, click Remember this decision, then click Grant (or click Always trust content from Infomentum, LTD, then click Yes).
You are providing permission to receive an Applet that downloads the image and prevent reappearance of this window.

When the Download window appears, click one of the following:

• Save All - Saves all files to the last folder selected in a download. If no prior folder was selected. the Default Download folder is used. If no Default Download folder was designated in the Preferences, files will be placed in C:/My Documents folder for Windows PC or in the Macintosh Web Browser application directory.
• Save All To - Saves all files to a folder that you designate. Once designated, you can use the Save All button to save other files to this folder.
• Save As - Saves all files to a folder that you designate, and lets you change the filename of each object as it is downloaded, if desired.
• Cancel - Aborts the download process.

Enter the name for the downloaded file and a destination if prompted.
The files will be download to your computer. A download status message may appear after the download is completed.

Downloading files from a Macintosh

Macintosh Users may select to use the Simple Downloading method to retrieve files. This is selectable in the preferences and is recommended for versions of Netscape Communicator that do not properly support Java applets.

Simple Downloads:

1. Click the Download icon next to the desired item, or select the item and click Download to Local.
2. Select the components to download, if prompted, and click Download.
3. The Download Form appears. Each component selected for download is displayed. At this point you can download these components individually as follows:
   • Drag and Drop each file name to your desktop or a folder on your hard drive.
     OR
     
   • Option - Click on the file name and navigate to the desired download location. You can also change the name if desired.
     OR
     
   • Click and hold the cursor down over the file name. Select Save this Link As... and save the file in the subsequent Save As... box. (Photos and Graphics should be saved as SOURCE, and xml files as TEXT).
4. Close the Download Form window when done.

Downloading Graphics

Graphics files may be searched and downloaded just like photos. Downloaded graphics may also contain a preview file of the graphic and/or an .XML text file containing the IPTC header information.
When you download a graphic file, it saves to your computer as a compressed Macbinary (.bin) file. This file may be uncompressed using:

Macintosh: Stuffit Expander for Macintosh (with Dropstuff Enhancer) Windows PC: Aladdin Expander for Windows.

If these are not already with your web browser, they may be downloaded for free at Http://www.aladdinsys.com.

For larger graphic files, the Macbinary graphics file expands to a Stuffit Deluxe (.sit) file that should automatically create the Graphic file, which may be any format, PDF, Illustrator, Freehand etc.

Editing Header Text

In addition to the image, News Objects also have text information embedded within. This text conforms to the IPTC standards and may be edited if your user rights allow. Ads and Delivery Tickets cannot be edited.

1. Locate the image whose header text you wish to edit.
2. Click the Edit Description icon, the Header edit screen appears:
3. Make your desired edits to the Header text fields.
4. When done, press Save Changes to save your edits.
   • Press Reset to revert back to the last saved Header text,
   • Press Cancel to close the window without making any changes to the Header text.
