Uploaded If your User Rights permit, you can enter items into the AP Server.

Getting more information about Photos


  • Click the thumbnail photo to view the IPTC Header information.
  • Click the Edit Description icon to view an editable version of the IPTC Header information.

    Explanation of Photo Fields

    Information in the Header fields may be edited, if you have the user rights to do so. If a general search or query restriction does not provide the results you want, you can focus on specific fields by using their field names.
    The labels below describe the information in these fields. To search through these fields, or to use them as user filters, you must enter the field name (shown in parenthesis, if available) in the search fields or User filter fields.

    Headline (headline)

    A publishable entry providing a synopsis of the contents of the photo.

    Category (category)

    Code that identifies the subject of the photograph.

    Location (city, state, country)

    Identifies the city, state and country where the photo was taken.

    Instructions (specialinstr)

    Editor's notes such as embargoes, warnings, mandatory credits, corrections and additions.

    Creation date

    Date the photo was shot.

    Photographer (byline)

    Creator of the photo.

    Object Name (objectname)

    Name assigned to the photo.

    Source (source)

    The original owner of the photo; this could be an agency, a member of an agency or an individual.

    Submit Date

    The date the photo was entered into the AP Server.

    Caption writer (captionwriter)

    Name of the writer or editor of the caption.

    Trans ref (transreferenceno)

    Unique code representing the location of original transmission according to the provider.

    Credit (credit)

    The transmitter or provider of the photo, not necessarily the owner/creator.

    Slug (slug)

    One line description of the photo.

    Description (description)

    Descriptive explanation of the subjects, events, actions, etc. in the photo.

    Height / Width

    The height and width of the photo in pixels.

    Image Size / Resolution

    The file size and resolution of the photo.

    File Type

    The file type of the photo.

    About User Advisories

    A user advisory is sent on an "as needed" basis. They notify the user of changes or additional information related to a particular news object. Sample types of user advisories include:
