The AP in Montana
From Alzada to Yaak, and points in between, the Helena bureau of The Associated Press covers breaking news, sports, enterprise and business news.
The Helena bureau has a full-time staff of 4 people to provide comprehensive news and sports coverage from the fourth largest state. The Billings office has one person to cover news in eastern Montana and northern Wyoming.
Since 1846, the AP, a not-for-profit news cooperative, has provided global news coverage. In Montana, our news, photos, graphics and sound are published or aired in 10 daily newspapers, about 65 radio and TV stations, and carried in some campus and weekly newspapers.
Photo of the Month
September, 2010

In this Sept. 8, 2010 photo, a young black bear falls from a tree safely into a net after being darted with a tranquilizer near downtown Missoula, Mont. It's that time of year again in the Intermountain West, when the lumbering beasts are piling on the calories to prepare for the winter ahead and hibernation. But finding enough food isn't easy. As a result, some communities are seeing more bears poking through garbage or nosing around backyard orchards. State wildlife agents have been kept busy, advising people to put away bird feed, stow trash and keep any other smelly objects under wraps. (AP Photo/Missoulian, Kurt Wilson)
Newspaper Membership in Montana
The Montana AP Editors and Publishers Association is a group of member newspaper executives from across the state. There is an annual meeting to discuss AP issues and the AP news and photo reports.
The annual meeting is usually in June, during the annual Montana Newspaper Association convention. The current chairman is Bob Gibson, managing editor of the The Bozeman Daily Chronicle.
