The Nebraska Associated Press Association voted to split contributions into two divisions

Newspapers in Division II have the option of entering in Division I if they wish. Division I may not enter in Division II.

 

Entry fees remain the same at $8.00 per entry.  Deadline is Friday, February 2, 2007.

 

A.  Reporting and Writing

 

1.  Spot News:  One day’s coverage of a particular event.

 

2.      Feature Story:  Story or stories with sidebar(s) on topic of non-breaking nature.

 

3.      Enterprise:  Story or group of stories of investigative or unique nature that 

      would have gone unreported without newspaper’s effort on project.

 

4.  Continuing Coverage: Group of stories on a continuing issue or story.

 

5.  News Column:  News or feature.

 

6.  Sports Column:  News or feature.

 

7.  Sports Story:  Spot sports story or feature.

 

8.      Sports Enterprise:  Story or group of stories of an investigative nature;

       series; special section or other non-deadline work.

 

 B.  Photography

 

1.  Spot News Photo: Single photo from spontaneous, breaking event..

 

2.  Feature: Single picture of non-breaking nature.

 

3.  Photo Essay: Three or more pictures in a package.

 

4.  Sports Action Photo: Spot photo of a sporting event.

 

5.  Sports Feature Photo: Single photo of a feature nature.

           

6.  Graphic: Single graphic on any topic

 

Each paper is allowed 24 entries in the writing division and 18 entries in the photos and graphics division, with no limit in an individual category.  The entries must be from editions published between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2006, inclusive.

 

  C.  Layout and Design

 

            Up to four sets of pages.  Two dates are mandatory. Two optional

            dates may be included.  The mandatory dates are:  May 18, 2006 and 

            November 15, 2006.

 

D.  Website

 

            Submit website URL, and a statement of no more than 250 words describing the site. 

            Entry may contain the name of the webmaster.

 

 Writing and Photo Categories

 

Entries should be tearsheets (photocopies permitted) or PDFs of the newspaper page to prove date of publication.  Each entry should be labeled to note the contest category at the top of the page, or at the top of the first page for multi-page entries, and include the newspaper, title of entry and reporter’s or photographer’s  name.  Please make copies of the label form provided and affix to each entry.  For photos, prints are optional.

  

Layout and Design

 

Submit front page, front sports page and any single inside page for each of four dates.  The mandatory dates are:  May 18, 2006 and November 15, 2006.   Entries for optional dates must come from editions published between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2006.  Entries will be judged for overall layout, use of photographs and graphics, placement of copy and headlines, etc.

 

Deadline:  Friday, February 2, 2007.
