RE: NYSAPA CONTESTS

Dear AP Member Editor,

Rules and entry blanks for the 2007-2008 New York State Associated Press Association writing, photo and graphics contests are enclosed.

All entries in all contests must be postmarked by June 16, 2008.

There are four new categories this year, Photo: Online Photography; Graphics: Interactive graphics; and Writing: Blogging and Multimedia. Please read the categories under each

contest for a full description.

In the writing contest, Newspaper of Distinction entrants may send in (1) an entire edition from February 6, 2008, (2) one edition from May 15, 2008, and (3) a third day of the newspaper’s choice between June 1, 2007 and May 31, 2008.

Please distribute the photo and graphics rules to the appropriate people on your staff. (We also send copies to photo and graphics editors at New York newspapers if we have individual addresses for them on file.)

In the writing contest, entries may be clips or legible photocopies. You may enter tear sheets but story entries must be marked clearly using a red felt-tip pen to bracket your entry at all corners. Bracket even full-page entries so that it is clear which side of the page is being entered.

Entry forms MUST be typed or legibly printed. Place each entry in its own letter-size manila folder, with a copy of the entry form taped to the front.

Detailed instructions on entry preparation and submission are in the attached rules under Competition Criteria. Entries not submitted in accordance with the instructions will be disqualified.

Please mail or ship all entries, with checks payable to Associated Press Associations to:

The Associated Press

Capital Newspapers Building

645 Albany Shaker Road

PO Box 11010

Albany, NY 12211

Express shipments should be marked “INSIDE DELIVERY – SECOND FLOOR.”

Reminder: All entries in all contests must be postmarked by June 16, 2008.
