The Burlington (Vt.) Free Press won the 2002 Eureka! award
presented by the New England Associated Press Newspaper Executives Association
for the year's best idea in newspaper production, presentation or design.
The Free Press' "Download
Delight" bridges the newspaper's Web site with its print parent in giving
readers a way to download photos that appeared in print. The system requires a
password users obtain by buying the newspaper.
The judges also gave special recognition to
the Boston Herald for "Bay State Reflects," a 100-foot-long set of
panels that display readers' reactions to the Sept. 11 terrorists attacks.
The panels, dedicated March 11 on City Hall
Plaza, show nearly 1,000 submissions that include essays, poems, artwork,
anything that would fit into a 16-square-inch space.
The Eureka! award along with those for
writing, photo, design and 9/11 coverage will be presented at NEAPNEA's
conference in Ogunquit, Maine, on Sept. 27 and 28.
