How I got the picture

Oullette:

"As I approached the water at Round Pond all the frogs scattered except for this one. He stayed put as I got closer.

"I entered the water, still he did not flinch. I used an 80-200 to shoot tight.
We used the photo larger than life on page one."

About the others

Honorable mentions went to Andree Kehn of The Citizen in Laconia, N.H., for a June 18 photo of Jeffrey Vos crashing during motorcycle races at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon and to Terry Taylor ofThe Times Record in Brunswick, Maine for his June 11 feature of John Quinn lifted by a helium balloon in Woolrich.
