Police chief Leonard Macdaid walks past the remains of a pickup truck that was hit by a train on Railroad Street in Clinton, Maine, and pushed about 300 yards down the rails on June 27. The driver escaped the wreck without serious injury.

A suspect is led away from an apartment house in Milford, N.H., on June 17 after a four-hour standoff with police. He was wanted on a warrant for stalking.
