How I got the picture

Lane:

"I got the call to shoot the eagle Aug. 21 at about 2 p.m. By the time I arrived in Hampton and found the bird it was around 5 p.m. I was happy just to find it, and took a series of static shots of the bird perched on a roof top.

"Then, the bird became agitated by kids throwing a football. It took flight and circled the area a few times. And then it set down about 20 yards away from where the boys were playing football.

" As it sat on the beach, I kept my camera on it when all of a sudden a little girl, seemingly oblivious to the danger, ran by about 10 feet from the bird. The eagle took flight and went after her, knocking the little girl off her feet.

"The picture is a digital image shot with a Nikon D1 and a Tokina 2.8 with a 2X converter."
