Bedford:

"I've been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to cover the World Mud Bowl in North Conway for over 20 years, off and on. Along the way, besides getting some lenses and lots of clothing caked in mud -- you have to dress down for Mud Bowl, wear something you never intend to wear again -- I've been able to get a feel for some of the athletes and their plays.

"The subject I captured (Matt Mezquita) was a former high school standout and most of his plays in this tournament are designed to go up the middle of the field. When the team broke the huddle I had a hunch the play was going to Mezquita. Low and behold it did, and he ran right for the endzone and my lens.

" I knew right away it was a good shot, and things only improved when I downloaded the disk onto the computer. Yes, Matt made my day! I used a Nikon D1X and a Nikon 80-400 lense on the shoot."
