AP SERVICE UPDATES

AP Elections
The AP Elections Service is now available for members for use in print and online. In addition to election night results (local, national and state-by-state), we have added elements of our first-rate political reporting and information on candidates. The goal is to provide our members with a complete product portfolio for the 2007-08 campaign season.

AP Money & Markets
Members who subscribe to AP’s markets service Stocks Express now have the option of using Money & Markets Online Basic at no additional cost. Online Basic is a rich online financial data service with markets, economy and company news updated throughout the day. Easy-to-use tools, including stock and mutual fund quote look-up boxes, give readers a quick way to check their favorite stocks. Increase traffic, repeat visits and visit duration to your newspaper Web site. Online Basic also offers advertising and sponsorship opportunities geared toward an attractive demographic.

Online Video Network
The next generation of Online Video Network is rolling out at newspapers around the country, offering the opportunity to include local video and local advertising. The updated online player supports playback of videos, AP’s or local, right on the local Web site instead of in the destination/pop-up player.

AP Lifestyles
In addition to food, fashion homes and garden coverage, AP has added coverage of families and relationships, pets and holidays to the Lifestyles package (formerly known as Weekly Features). And something else: Weekly Features isn't just weekly. While the bulk of the exclusive content moves on Fridays and Mondays, members who subscribe also get updates throughout the week. Lifestyles remains a bargain at about $20 a week. If you're interested in hearing more about AP Lifestyles and getting its first quarterly newsletter, contact Ohio Bureau Chief Eva Parziale or (614)885-2727.

AP Stylebook Online
AP Stylebook Online is fully searchable, so you can find a listing even if you aren’t sure what heading to look up. Site managers can make local style notes and share them across all users in the newsroom. No more notes scratched in the margin of one copy editor’s book. It’s updated live as the AP makes changes, so you have immediate access to an updated listing for daylight saving time or a new listing for BlackBerry. With your user name and password, you can log in from work, from home or anywhere with an Internet connection. AP members pay about 40 percent off less than retail, or about the same price per user as a hard copy book – but with no shipping, and no waiting for a new book to come out each year. If you remain a fan of the hard copy book, the 2007 spiral bound book is now available, as well. Order the at http://www.ap.org/pages/product/order.html.

AP SERVICE UPDATES

AP Photos
The Headquarters Photo Desk in New York plans to incorporate operations currently handled by the State Photo Center in Washington, D.C., by October. Once the transition is complete, the new Headquarters Photo Desk will centralize and simplify photo operations for AP members and AP staff while allowing AP to distribute photographs more timely and efficiently. Throughout the transition, AP members and customers will receive the same high quality content with the same formats and delivery methods they are used to. Additional information will be available in the coming weeks.

Photo Assignments
All special photo assignment requests are now being handled by AP Images in New York. The AP’s Photo department had handled those requests in the past. If you’re interested in photo assignments, contact the AP Images Assignments Team at (212) 621-1980 or assignments@ap.org. AP Images will handle the entire assignment process, including assessing your needs, selecting a photographer, determining the rate, billing and delivering images. If you have any questions, contact Regional Photo Editor Kii Sato in Columbus at ksato@ap.org or (614) 885-2727.

AP Exchange
AP plans to phase out YourAP in 2007 and replace the service with AP Exchange, the new web-based view of all your AP content. Now is the time to contact AP to book training on AP Exchange for your newsroom. Simply email talkback@ap.org to book a 60-minute online training session. This session will provide editors and reporters with all they need to know to become AP Exchange experts. They'll be able to search for locally relevant news in the new AP database and build custom feeds that will deliver relevant news in less time. As well, don't forget our regularly scheduled School of Search online training which takes place every Thursday at 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET. RSVP for these sessions at talkback@ap.org.

Weather maps
You can now access Freehand weather maps in AP Exchange. A quick search for all maps would be:

_For AM weather maps: apamdak or dak

_For PM weather maps: appmdak or dak

Newspapers should swap in their own codes in the place of ‘dak.’
