Kelly Kurt
Kelly
Kurt, The AP's correspondent in Tulsa, covers the eastern Oklahoma hills where
she was born.
She joined The AP in Oklahoma City in 1994 and transferred to Tulsa later that
year.
She has covered Oklahoma's tornadoes and its 1995 bombing; its elections,
executions and environmental messes. In-depth stories have taken her from
Tulsa's high rises to Guymon's hog farms and many an Oklahoman's kitchen table
in between. Occasionally she turns up in a press box.
Kurt grew up in Owasso, graduated Oklahoma State University, interned at the
Muskogee Daily Phoenix and worked for the now-defunct Tulsa Tribune and the
Tulsa World before a stint as a features writer at the
Wilkes-Barre (Pa.) Times Leader.
She returned to The AP in January after a year's sabbatical in Europe, proof
that you can always go home - even twice.
Kurt and her husband are in the process of buying a house. In the meantime, they
live in a trailer and worry about twisters.
