The Associated Press names Donald Ma as its Asia-Pacific regional director
NEW YORK -- The Associated Press has appointed Donald Ma as its Asia-Pacific regional director, responsible for overseeing business strategy and sales throughout Asia for AP's Global Newspaper Markets and AP Digital divisions. Global Newspaper Markets also participates in administrative management of the region and assists the photo sales efforts of AP Images, a GNM unit.
Ma will join the AP effective March 11. Based in Hong Kong, he will be responsible for managing Global Newspaper Markets and Digital customer relationships with newspapers and news agencies, Web sites and wireless media. He will report to Global Newspaper Markets Vice President Joy Jones, who announced the appointment.
"Donald's experience in the media industry, knowledge of the region and depth in sales and marketing will contribute greatly to our success," said Jones. "We are excited about the leadership he will bring to our team."
Ma most recently was with DDB Guoan Communications CO Ltd, an advertising and communications joint venture between DDB's holding company Omnicom Group and Citic Guoan, where he was managing director, based in Beijing. Prior to his two years with DDB, he worked as a consultant to the British Broadcasting Corporation. Before that he spent six years with Getty Images as Director and General Manager, North Asia, in addition to several years spent in various sales and promotion roles within the media industry. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia.
