Judy
Miller, Miami Herald managing editor, named AP national editor
NEW YORK -- Judy Miller, a managing
editor of The Miami Herald who supervised coverage that led
to two Pulitzer Prizes, has been named national editor of
The Associated Press.
The appointment was announced Feb. 13 by Kristin Gazlay, AP's
deputy managing editor for national news.
As national editor, Miller will oversee all national news
outside of Washington, D.C., including specialist teams of
reporters covering areas such as health, science and religion.
Miller currently is managing editor for news and features
at the Herald, where she helped lead the staff to Pulitzers
in breaking news reporting in 2001 for coverage of the Elian
Gonzalez case and investigative reporting in 1999 for uncovering
widespread voter fraud in a city mayoral election that subsequently
was overturned.
She has held numerous other positions at the Herald, and also
served as deputy city editor at the San Francisco Chronicle
and metro editor at the now-defunct Peninsula Times Tribune
in Palo Alto, Calif.
She also was part of the team whose work led to the Herald's
Pulitzer for public service in 1993 for coverage of Hurricane
Andrew.
She is a past president of Investigative Reporters and Editors.
