Hefling
named Washington regional reporter for Pennsylvania
PHILADELPHIA -- Kimberly
Hefling, correspondent for The Associated Press in Evansville,
Ind., has been named the Washington regional reporter for
Pennsylvania.
The appointment was
announced Feb. 23 by Sally Carpenter Hale, chief of bureau
for Pennsylvania.
Hefling joined the
AP in Louisville in 1997 and became the Pikeville, Ky., correspondent
the following year. She moved to Evansville in 2000.
Last year, Hefling
won the AP's Charles Rowe Award for Distinguished State Bureau
Reporting for her coverage of the military. She was embedded
with a division from Fort Campbell, Ky., during the U.S. push
across Iraq and, a year earlier, in Afghanistan during the
attacks on the Taliban.
Hefling is a native
of Wichita, Kan., and a graduate of Kansas State University.
She succeeds Lara Jakes
Jordan, who has been promoted to the national staff in Washington.
