Steven Gutkin named AP chief of
bureau in Jerusalem
NEW YORK -- Steven Gutkin, chief of Southeast Asia
services in Jakarta, Indonesia for The Associated Press, has
been named the AP's new chief of bureau in Jerusalem.
The appointment was announced Thursday by
Deborah Seward, AP's international editor.
In his new post, Gutkin succeeds Dan Perry,
who was named Europe-Africa editor, a new post in London.
Gutkin was previously AP bureau chief in Caracas,
Venezuela, and before that an editor on the AP's International
Desk in New York. He was a correspondent in Venezuela for
five years and Colombia for seven years. In all, Gutkin has
reported from 23 countries in Asia, Latin America, the Middle
East and Africa.
Gutkin has a master's degree from the Columbia
University Graduate School of Journalism and a bachelor's
degree in international relations from Pomona College.
