AP Wide World Photos Names Two New Managers
to Direct Sales and Content
NEW YORK – The Associated Press has named Andrew
Hill and James Gerberich to two new management positions in
Wide World Photos, the commercial picture division that sells
photographs to books, magazines, advertisers and the general
public. Hill joins the AP as director of sales. Gerberich
has been appointed to the post of director of content management
and operations.
The appointments were announced by Ken Dale, vice president/global
business. Wide World Photos (http://www.apwideworld.com),
a unit in AP's Global Business division, provides access to
more than 1.8 million photos in a fully searchable image database
that is one of the biggest and most comprehensive collections
in the world.
Hill will be responsible for managing Wide World's sales teams
in New York and on the West Coast. He comes from the New York
office of Virtual Picture Desk, a content licensing and digitization
consultancy. A graduate of Columbia University, Hill previously
held sales management positions in the New York offices of
the photo agencies Getty Images and Corbis. "Andy brings
to AP a wealth of experience," said Dale.
Gerberich has been interim editorial director in Wide World
since February. In his new role, he will responsible for managing
and expanding AP's commercial editorial content in the Photo
Archive and for overseeing operations and systems for Wide
World. He joined the AP as a staff photographer in San Francisco
in 1986 and went on to lead the development of AP's Preserver
technology and digital photography initiatives as senior product
manager for editorial imaging. Later, Gerberich oversaw the
operational aspects of AP's ad services businesses as director
of operations/business development.
Gerberich and Hill will report to Dale who said "we'll
also be working closely with the AP International team to
expand AP's commercial photo sales overseas."
