Robin McDowell named AP bureau chief in Jakarta
NEW YORK -- Robin McDowell, a supervisor on the AP's Asia News Desk in Bangkok, has been promoted to chief of bureau in Jakarta. The announcement was made May 25 by Deborah Seward, AP's international editor.
As chief of bureau, McDowell will be responsible for directing coverage in Indonesia. McDowell, 39, joined the AP in Phnom Pehn, Cambodia, in 1996, then worked as a newswoman in Denver. She transferred to the international desk in 1999. She has covered the death of Pol Pot and was part of the team that covered the Columbine High School shootings in 1999. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York.
