AP Press Release
The Associated Press launches AP Mobile news app for iPhone version 3.0, adding push notification of breaking news and emergency updates
NEW YORK – The Associated Press today announced the availability of the Push Notifications feature in an update to the AP Mobile news application on the Apple App Store. The launch of version 3.0 of the AP Mobile news app gives iPhone and iPod touch users the ability to receive breaking news alerts directly on their phone, even if they are not currently in the AP Mobile application.
Push Notifications allow users to get breaking news alerts as they happen. While testing the service, Francisco González, an AP Mobile 3.0 beta user witnessed a strong earthquake in Mexico City and received an AP Alert a "couple of minutes after the earthquake ended." The user said that this functionality is "a new level of real-time information.”
In addition to AP Mobile’s Push Notifications, feature enhancements include:
• Sending to Evernote. Users can now save stories directly to Evernote, a free digital service and App Store application that captures information and makes it accessible and searchable at any time, from anywhere.
• Cut and Paste. Users can select and copy snippets of stories using iPhone’s new cut and paste functionality to share with friends.
Recently, AP introduced its “Front Page” feature, which gives iPhone and iPod touch users the power to customize their own Front Page to define the news that they see when they open the app, choosing news from over 50 categories. AP also added a Weather section featuring content from AccuWeather.com.
The AP Mobile app is available for free from Apple’s App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/. Service updates can also be found on the AP Mobile blog, http://blog.apnews.com.
