Ed McCullough named AP regional director for Latin America/Caribbean
NEW YORK -- Ed
McCullough, regional manager for Southern Europe in the Global
Newspaper Markets division of The Associated Press, has been
appointed regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean.
McCullough will be based in Mexico City, where he will be
responsible for business development, sales/marketing, and
administration in Latin America and the Caribbean for the
AP's newspaper and digital markets. He also will work with
the U.S. Newspaper Markets team on North American Hispanic
markets.
The appointment was announced Sept. 20 by Tom Brettingen,
the AP's senior vice president of Global Newspaper Markets.
McCullough was chief of bureau for Iberia, based in Madrid,
Spain, before becoming regional manager for Southern Europe,
responsible for the AP's newspaper and digital business operations
in Italy, Greece, Spain and Portugal, in May 2005. Before
that he was bureau chief for the Nordics/Baltics, based in
Stockholm, Sweden, and for Venezuela, based in Caracas, for
nine years.
He joined the AP in 1981 as a newsman in Albany, N.Y., and
later served as sports writer in Buffalo, N.Y.; New York regional
reporter in Washington, D.C.; World Desk editor; news editor
for the Caribbean, based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and news
editor in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
McCullough has a bachelor's degree in international relations
and a master's degree in economics, both from Georgetown University.
He succeeds Abner Katzman, who left the company.
