Andrew Selsky named AP's chief of Caribbean news

NEW YORK -- Andrew Selsky, chief of bureau for The Associated Press in Colombia, has been named chief of Caribbean news in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The appointment was announced Oct. 11 in New York by Deborah Seward, AP's international editor.

Selsky will be responsible for coverage in more than 30 countries and territories in the Caribbean region, including the Bahamas, and Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname in South America.

Selsky has reported from two dozen countries for AP, including Haiti and Afghanistan.

He was AP's chief of bureau for Bogota twice, first in the mid-1990s and again since 2000. He also has reported from Managua, Nicaragua; South Africa and Spain, where he was chief of bureau in Madrid in 1996-1997.

Selsky joined AP in Cheyenne, Wyo., in 1984 and transferred to Los Angeles later that year. His other domestic assignments were in Kansas City, Mo., and on the AP's International Desk in New York.

A native of Washington, Selsky is a graduate of Virginia Tech. He succeeds Michelle Faul, who has been named AP's chief of Africa news in Johannesburg.
