Pitman appointed AP's bureau chief in Dakar, Senegal
NEW YORK -- Todd
Pitman, a correspondent for The Associated Press in Dakar,
Senegal, has been promoted to chief of bureau there.
The announcement was made Aug. 26 by Deborah Seward, AP's
international editor.
As chief of bureau, Pitman will be responsible for directing
coverage in more than 20 countries in west and central Africa.
A native of Athens, Ga., Pitman has covered stories across
the African continent, including conflicts in Burundi, Rwanda,
Congo and Somalia. He also reported from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Before joining AP in 2001, Pitman spent four years as a correspondent
for other news organizations in central and eastern Africa.
Pitman graduated from the University of Georgia in 1993.
