Renfrew Named to New Associated Press

New York – The Associated Press has named Deputy International
Editor Barry Renfrew to the new position of vice president-global
business for Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
“Barry Renfrew is one of the most decisive and insightful
global news executives today,” said AP President and
CEO Tom Curley, in announcing the appointment. “His
leadership will extend AP’s competitiveness in Europe,
the Mid-East and Africa.”
Renfrew, 50, will remain based in London and be responsible
for overseeing AP’s business and administrative affairs
in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He will report to John
Keitt, senior vice president for global business.
A veteran AP journalist, Renfrew has served as bureau chief
in Islamabad, Seoul, Johannesburg, Moscow, Sydney and London.
He joined the AP as an editor in 1978. He is a graduate of
Clark University in Worcester, Mass.
In other appointments, Ian Ritchie, 50, will take over as
vice president-global business and be responsible for Associated
Press Television News in London. Ritchie, an experienced broadcast
executive, has been with the AP since 2000. He will report
to Keitt. Among other news organizations, he previously served
as chief executive officer for Middle East Broadcasting Ltd.
(MBC) and for Channel 5, in Britain.
AP, founded in 1848 and headquartered in New York, is a source
of print news, photos, graphics, audio and video for more
than a billion people a day.
