Associated Press names five new vice presidents
NEW YORK -- The Associated Press named five new vice presidents
Tuesday from the cooperative's news, technology, human resources
and global business departments.
President and CEO Tom Curley said the appointments reflect
the growing importance of key management roles as the AP moves
to develop new content and expand markets, staffing and technical
initiatives worldwide.
The new appointments went to Jessica Bruce, vice president
and deputy director of Human Resources; Ken Dale, vice president
and director-Global Business; Jeffrey Hastie, vice president
and deputy director for Services & Technology; Joy Jackson,
who joins AP as vice president-Global Business, and Mike Silverman,
vice president and managing editor.
Bruce is responsible for personnel strategy and development
and oversees Human Resources support for all AP news and business
units. She joined AP in 1997 as director of employee benefits
after serving as director of benefits at HarperCollins Publishers/News
Corp. She also held positions at Lehman Brothers and at Mitsubishi
Trust & Banking Corp.
Dale joined the AP in 2000 as deputy director of Business
Development after 21 years at J.P. Morgan advising media clients
on mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance transactions.
At AP, he is responsible for AP Ad Management Services, including
AdVantage and AdSEND, and is responsible for the financial
side of new business opportunities.
Hastie joined AP in 1996 as director of technology planning
and has been deputy director for Services & Technology
since 1997. His responsibilities include staffing and financial
resources within the division and aligning AP's technical
initiatives with news and business units across the company.
Jackson joins AP from the Telecom Media Networks division
of Cap Gemini Ernst & Young. She has worked with media,
entertainment and telecommunications clients to develop technology-led
strategies for international companies. At AP, she will manage
new revenue initiatives and help build new global business
strategies.
Silverman has been managing editor since 2000, directing
AP's day-to-day news coverage around the world. He joined
AP in 1971 in San Francisco, was promoted to the national
editing desk in 1976 and was named assistant managing editor
in 1989. He has helped cover more than a dozen space shuttle
flights, the 1994 and 1998 Winter Olympics and every national
political convention since 1984.
