Fonseca named AP correspondent in Flagstaff


PHOENIX (AP) -- Felicia Fonseca, a Native American beat writer in the Albuquerque bureau of The Associated Press, has been named the AP's first correspondent for northern Arizona.

The appointment was announced Tuesday by Michelle Williams, chief of bureau for Arizona and New Mexico.

Fonseca, 25, has covered the Native American beat for the AP since 2006. The beat will be central to the new correspondent position, based in Flagstaff.

Fonseca, a native of Grants, N.M., joined the AP in Albuquerque in 2005 after graduating from the University of New Mexico. She also worked as an intern at La Voz del Norte, The Santa Fe New Mexican and The Albuquerque Tribune.
