Tolin named Lifestyles editor of AP

NEW YORK (AP) — Lisa Tolin, deputy lifestyles editor, has been named lifestyles editor of The Associated Press, responsible for coverage of food, fashion, homes and gardens, parenting, pets and travel.

Tolin, who has been acting lifestyles editor for six months, succeeds Diane Davis, who resigned.

Her appointment was announced Monday by Lou Ferrara, AP's managing editor for sports, entertainment and lifestyles content.

Tolin, 33, joined the AP in 2000 and worked as an information specialist and editor on the National Desk before being tapped in 2005 as sections editor of asap, the AP's younger readers project, an award-winning multimedia service that focused on alternative storytelling. She oversaw the service's lifestyles, entertainment, business and sports coverage before being promoted to its deputy editor. In 2007, after asap was closed, Tolin joined the Lifestyles Department as deputy editor.

Under Tolin's direction, AP has expanded feature coverage of the Obama family and other topics close to the news, including the recession and the death of Michael Jackson.

"Lisa has done a terrific job as acting Lifestyles editor, bringing her excellent background in news, features and multimedia to the department as it improves and expands its coverage of lifestyles and trends," Ferrara said. "She is an innovative editor, who will lead the department to stronger coverage."

Before the AP, Tolin worked at Facts on File News Services and the British Broadcasting Corp.

She is a graduate of Barnard College.
