AP appoints VP for Europe, Middle East and Asia
NEW YORK (AP) -- Nigel Baker, an executive director at AP Television News in London, has been appointed vice president of business operations for The Associated Press in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
The London-based position is part of AP's consolidation of its newspaper, broadcast and online sales and marketing operations. The appointment was announced Monday by Tom Brettingen, AP's chief revenue officer and senior vice president.
Baker, 53, joined AP in 1994 to design the output of AP's startup video service and build up its international bureau network. He oversaw the integration of two international TV news services in 1998 when AP acquired WTN.
Baker, who holds a master's degree in eCommerce from London's Brunel University, has been executive director of AP Television News for the last four years. Previously, he held the positions of managing director, director of content and head of news. For the past year, he also has been business leader for AP's entertainment vertical.
In his new position, Baker will coordinate operational areas of APTN and work with AP's subsidiaries in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. He also will be responsible for relationships with video content providers, operational aspects of AP's video custom-coverage and video archive businesses.
Before joining AP, Baker held senior editorial positions in Britain at Sky News and ITN and set up TV news teams for Reuters. He began his career as a reporter for the British national news agency, The Press Association.
