1900 The Associated Press is incorporated in the state of New York and elects its first general manager, Melville Stone.   Before consolidating there were several Associated Press groups that shared news with the New York Associated Press responsible for national and international news.  The groups were geographically based. Some of them were: the Philadelphia Associated Press, Southern Associated Press, and the Western Associated Press.
