1910 The AP reports news of the controversy surrounding the separate discoveries of the North Pole by Dr. Frederick Cook and Robert E. Peary (pictured) within a few days of each other. The news on Peary comes largely by wireless telegraph from Battle Harbor, Labrador. Cook's claim later proved to be false.
