AP is the first news organization to directly transmit a play-by-play report of a sporting event. The event, baseball's World Series between the Brooklyn Nationals and the Boston Red Sox, is covered using a special 26,000-mile circuit. 

One impressed reader wired his thoughts: 

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS MUST BE WONDERFULLY WELL ORGANIZED TO BE ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH WHAT WAS DONE IN THE BALL GAMES. UNCLE SAM HAS NOW A REAL ARTERIAL SYSTEM AND IT IS NEVER GOING TO HARDEN.
