Member Credits

There are key considerations when deciding when to credit a member for a story picked up for the wire. Routine spot news is generally not credited on the wire.
However the AP credits: All " has learned " or " sources say " stories developed by the member through initiatives we have not matched.
* Stories that show unusual enterprise, initiative or are outstanding examples of journalism.
* Stories that go beyond a public event.
* Extraordinary examples of breaking news.
* When members go beyond the call of duty to share news on cycle.

A general rule of thumb for AP staffers in Boston and Providence is: if there is a question about whether a story should be credited - it probably should.
