AP photographer Gregory Bull knew it would come -- the inevitable moment when Gabby Douglas does that little bit extra.

AP gears up for robust coverage of national party conventions
The Associated Press will provide comprehensive all-formats coverage of the upcoming national conventions. The Republican Party holds its convention Aug. 27-30 in Tampa, Fla., and the Democratic Party follows with its convention Sept. 4-6 in Charlotte, N.C.

New AP series examines health of Social Security
The Associated Press is examining the state of Social Security and its long-term health in a four-part series of stories this month.
At a time when many Americans worry whether Social Security will be there for them during retirement, the series will assess the current health of the system and various proposals to ensure its strength. Stories will also explore the chances that public officials will tackle these politically charged options in the coming years.

AP launches “Healthy Plate” column with celebrity chef Sara Moulton
The Associated Press has begun publishing a weekly healthy eating column by Sara Moulton, star of public television's "Sara's Weeknight Meals" and a longtime Food Network host. The column is available to subscribers of AP's Lifestyles service.
Moulton was one of the pioneers of the Food Network and a guiding force behind Gourmet magazine for nearly 25 years. She has spent much of her career focusing on family-friendly and accessible weeknight recipes. In her weekly column for AP, Moulton will give readers straightforward tips for using seasonal ingredients to create simple and delicious healthy meals. Her all-original recipes will take a holistic approach to healthy eating, with an emphasis on whole grains, healthy fats and low sugar. See more here.

AP updates social media guidelines for global news staff
AP’s global news staff received an update of the social media guidelines that were last revised in January 2012. The main changes, revealed in a note to staff by AP Social Media Editor Eric Carvin and AP Deputy Managing Editor for Standards Tom Kent, are new guidance on live-tweeting news events and updated advice on following politicians’ social networking accounts.
