2012 TENNESSEE AP MANAGING EDITORS CONTEST

THE DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO FRIDAY, FEB. 24.


The 2012 Tennessee AP Managing Editors Contest is designed to recognize Tennessee AP member newspapers and staffers for outstanding performance in journalism. The competition is open to all AP member newspapers in Tennessee and staffers employed by members at the time the entries were produced. Entries must have been produced in calendar 2011.

NEW THIS YEAR:

  • Members will be able to pay for entries via PayPal.  See instructions below.

SAVE THE DATE: TAPB and TAPME will hold their annual awards banquet on Saturday, June 16, 2012 in Nashville. Watch for details on the wire and our AP state website.

THE ENTRY DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, Feb. 24, 2012.  Fees are $20 for Div. 1, $15 for Div. II and $10 for Div. III and Div. IV.

DIVISIONS:

Division I: More than 50,000 daily (Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanooga).

Division II: 20,001 to 50,000 daily (Bristol, Clarksville, Jackson, Johnson City, Maryville, Kingsport). 

Division III: 10,001 to 20,000 daily (Athens, Cleveland, Columbia, Cookeville, Greeneville, Memphis Daily News, Murfreesboro, Morristown).

Division IV: Under 10,000 daily (Dyersburg, Elizabethton, McMinnville, Tullahoma, Crossville, Lebanon, Nashville Ledger, Oak Ridge, Paris, Sevierville, Shelbyville, Union City).

 

HOW TO ENTER:
Entries must be in digital format and must be submitted online at http://betternewspapercontest.com.  For a quick guide, please click here.  For detailed instructions, please click here.

The initial password is bnc.  You will be prompted to changed the password.  Each newspaper should use the same password.  Please remember each organization is treated as an entity.  Everyone must use the same password.  Please make sure everyone who will be submitting entries knows the password.

You must upload your entries to YouTube, Vimeo or another hosting site.  BNC does not host any of the entries. 

You enter the URL for where the entry can be viewed in the space provided for URL.

If prompted to enter a number of pages, please enter "1".

Please print a copy of each entry sheet to mail along with your check.  If you are paying by PayPal, please mail a copy of the entry sheet(s) with notation that you paid by PayPal.

 

Judging of all entries will be based on accuracy, clarity, completeness, timeliness and the best use of the medium. Judges are encouraged to give an award in each category, provided they deem entries appropriate to the category.  THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES IS FINAL. Ties are possible and there could be NO award in a category.

PAYMENT INFORMATION:

Payment can be made by check, cash, money order or PayPal.  If paying by check, please make check payable to Tennessee AP Managing Editors. No entries will be accepted without payment. No entries will be returned to the station.  Payment is made from this website, not the BNC site.

If paying by PayPal, the fee for Div. I is $21.50 per entry, Div. II is $16.50 per entry, Div. III and Div. IV is $11.00 per entry.
