The goal is to provide photos with every story on the news and enterprise digests, and to be as specific as possible with numbers and descriptions. Los Angeles photo editor John Hopper works closely with AP bureaus and newspapers throughout the West, and with photo editors at the State Photo Center in Washington, D.C., to try to illustrate every West Wire story. Sometimes that means going to Juneau, Alaska, to get a photo for a story written by Phoenix, or going to the Internet or state wildlife officers for photos from far-flung sources.
