WASHINGTON (AP) — Julie Pace, who covered Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign and has reported on his presidency ever since, has been appointed head of The Associated Press' staff at the White House.

The promotion to White House correspondent, effective immediately, was announced Friday by Sally Buzbee, AP’s bureau chief in Washington.

“Julie is a tenacious reporter who has distinguished herself with a steady stream of scoops,” said Buzbee. “In this year when the interaction between the administration and Congress will be so critical, she is well-positioned to break news and explain the significance of big stories to our readers and viewers.”

Pace succeeds Ben Feller, who is moving to New York after 10 years with AP, six of them at the White House and the last two as correspondent.

Pace, 30, joined AP’s video operations in Washington in 2007 and a year later moved over to the campaign as a video and print reporter. She is a 2004 graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. She worked at e.tv, a South African television station, and as a freelancer in South Africa and Zambia in 2003 and 2004.

From 2005 to 2007, she worked as a reporter at The Tampa (Fla.) Tribune.
