The 55th edition of The Associated Press Stylebook and Briefing on Media Law includes more than 200 new or revised entries, with chapters covering data journalism, business, religion and sports terms, as well as media law, news values, punctuation, social media and polls and surveys, plus a new chapter on digital security for journalists.

The AP Stylebook is widely used as a writing and editing reference in newsrooms, classrooms and corporate offices worldwide.

Changes in the AP Stylebook, 55th Edition, include:

—About 100 new or revised technology-related entries. For example: internet privacy; digital wallet/mobile wallet; smart devices; lidar.

—An expanded entry on sexual abuse, sexual assault, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct.

—An entry encouraging the use of gender-neutral language.

—Revised guidance that the % sign can be used in most cases.

—A revised entry on climate change, global warming, climate crisis.

—A new chapter on Digital Security for Journalists.

—New entries on coronaviruses, education-related terms and Kyiv.

—Revised guidance on preheat, semi-automatic rifle, the + symbol and midnight.
