Cubans will head to the polls to elect a new president on 19 April.

AP is planning to bring you a range of services tailored to your needs from the nation's capital.

Cuban state media reported Monday that the government moved up the start of a meeting of the National Assembly in which President Raul Castro plans to step down and hand over the office to a younger successor.

This successor will be selected after the 19 April elections in which voters and government officials pick the members of local, provincial and national assemblies and the members of the powerful council of state.

The session will now start Wednesday instead of Thursday and last two days.
