The Spain-based team of video journalist Renata Brito, photographers Emilio Morenatti and Bernat Armangue, and freelance video journalists Vicente Marquez and Pilar Suarez produced standout live video and photo coverage from Barcelona’s airport and beyond as police clashed with Catalans protesting the verdict against leaders of the failed 2017 bid for independence. The team of five, ably supported by editors and colleagues in the region, delivereded the strongest visual coverage from the first day of the protests and held their advantage in subsequent days as clashes, marches and rallies continued in the Catalan regional capital.
