Business Internship Program
WHAT IS IT?
A highly selective, 12-week paid, individually tailored
training program for students who are aspiring business, financial,
human resources, marketing and technology professionals.
AM I ELIGIBLE?
If you are a full-time senior or graduate student at a college
or university in the United States when you apply-yes, you
are.
WHAT ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE
PROGRAM?
You get paid. You get to work on strategic company projects
in an AP department under the supervision of a designated
trainer. And you gain unique, in-depth understanding on how
a global multi-media company operates.
WHEN DOES THE PROGRAM START?
Interns usually start in early June.
WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM ME?
• A cover letter describing the qualities and accomplishments
you would bring to the company and what you expect to gain
from an AP internship.
• A resume with your email address.
• One letter of reference from a current professor on
school letterhead.

News Internship Program
WHAT IS IT?

The internship is open to full-time juniors, seniors (including
fall 2008 graduates) and graduate students at U.S. colleges
and universities.
HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE IN THE PROGRAM?
As many as 22 interns are selected.
WHAT ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROGRAM?
You get to work in an AP bureau under the supervision of a
designated trainer. You get paid. And you get to cover breaking
news that may be featured in many media outlets.
WHEN DOES THE PROGRAM START?
Start dates may be anytime between mid-May and mid-June, depending
on your schedule.
WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM ME?
• A 300-word autobiographical essay on this topic: “The
Associated Press seeks to recruit and retain a workforce that
embodies a wide range of talents, experiences, achievements
and journalistic skills. Please describe the qualities and
accomplishments you would bring to the company.”
• A resume and cover letter (please include your projected
graduation date)
• Five to seven examples of your work (clips, CDs of
multimedia work)
• Two letters of reference, at least one from a professor
or faculty adviser on school letterhead
• An employment application (completed when you test)
• A timed newswriting test (taken at the bureau)
• An interview with
an AP chief of bureau
Please note that the AP representative may review application
materials before inviting candidates to take the test.

We select a minimum of two students for photo internships.
WHAT ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROGRAM?
You work with a designated trainer to help you in your development.
You get paid. And best of all, you get to cover stories that
could be featured in media outlets around the state or around
the globe.
WHEN DOES THE PROGRAM START?
Start dates may be anytime between mid-May and mid-June, depending
on your schedule.
WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM ME?
• A 300-word autobiographical essay on this topic: “The
Associated Press seeks to recruit and retain a workforce that
embodies a wide range of talents, experiences, achievements
and journalistic skills. Please describe the qualities and
accomplishments you would bring to the company.”
• A resume and cover letter (please include your projected

• A portfolio of your work. Submissions should be a
collection of jpeg images with captions on a CD. You should
forego programs that include music or special transitions.
A link to a website may be offered as a substitute for a CD.

Video Internship Program
WHAT IS IT?
The Associated Press Broadcast News Center (BNC) in Washington,
D.C. is offering a video internship during the summer of 2009.
AM I ELIGIBLE?
The internship is open to full-time juniors, seniors (including
fall 2008 graduates) and graduate students at American colleges
and universities.
WHAT ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE INTERNSHIP?
The broadcast intern will work with a team that is producing
content for our Online Video Network and AP Television News.
It includes field work, editing and producing video packages
that are distributed to broadcast television stations and
Web sites in the United States and abroad. Interns will work
with non-linear editing gear and learn broadcast writing and
storytelling techniques. And you get paid.
WHEN DOES THE INTERNSHIP START?
Start dates may be anytime between mid-May and mid-June, depending
on your schedule.

the summer of 2009.

Graphics Internship Program
WHAT IS IT?
The Graphics Department of The Associated Press is offering
a 12-week internship during the summer of 2009.
AM I ELIGIBLE?
The internship is open to full-time juniors, seniors (including
fall 2008 graduates) and graduate students at American colleges
and universities. In addition, applicants must have:
• Two years in basic drawing or computer illustration
classes, with proficiency in operating a vector drawing tool.
• Two years of basic photo manipulation skills in Photoshop.
• Good writing skills and ability to read and recognize
grammatical and factual errors in English or Spanish.
WHAT ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE INTERNSHIP?
You get to create breaking and advance graphics for national,
international, sports and business fields. You will also get
to hone your research and interviewing techniques. You will
learn to manipulate data and create meta-data oriented graphics.
You get to learn vector rendering, 3-D rendering and rendering
styles for graphics. And you get paid.

Multimedia Internship Program
WHAT IS IT?
The Multimedia Department of The Associated Press is offering
a 12-week internship during summer 2009.
AM I ELIGIBLE?
The internship is open to full-time juniors, seniors and graduate
students at American colleges and universities. In addition,
applicants must have HTML and audio editing skills, and must
be proficient in Flash and Photoshop.
WHAT ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE INTERNSHIP?
The multimedia intern will work with a team that is producing
multimedia features for hundreds of online customers, including
Yahoo, AOL and NYTimes.com. The internship includes production
of Flash-based presentations that are distributed to Web sites
in the United States. Interns will work with content from
several AP formats – text, photos, audio, video and
graphics – and learn multimedia storytelling techniques.
And you get paid.
