Greater health and science coverage

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Department of Science Education enabled AP to expand its health and science reporting team, increasing the number of stories about science – including medicine, space and the environment -- published by thousands of news organizations.

Covering climate change

AP has launched a global climate and environment desk to significantly expand our coverage, adding journalists in the U.S., India, Africa and Brazil, and collaborating with other news outlets to enhance local information for communities everywhere. Multiple foundations are contributing to these efforts.

Religion around the world

For the Global Religion Journalism Initiative, AP created a team of journalists working to improve understanding of the religious practices and principles behind current events and cultural movements. The Initiative, led by The Conversation-US, is funded by the Lilly Endowment.

Expanding local coverage

In collaboration with Report for America, AP added 17 reporters to its state government team, providing local newsrooms with essential accountability journalism and legislative coverage. Their work helps the public understand the impact of state policy on communities.

The future of education

AP’s new Education Reporting Network will work with journalists across the U.S. news industry to assess the pandemic’s impact on our schools, thanks to launch support from the Carnegie Corp. of New York.
