AP Images, the commercial photo unit of the Associated Press, today announced a worldwide photo production and distribution agreement with the 2013 Guinness International Champions Cup and its business and marketing arm, Relevent Sports.
The eight-team tournament will pit some of the world’s best and most prestigious football clubs — from LA Galaxy to Real Madrid — against each other in a series of elimination matches to be played July 27 – Aug. 7, and broadcast on Fox Soccer. The Cup will feature iconic stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrea Pirlo, Mario Balotelli, Frank Lampard, Roberto Soldado, Esteban Cambiasso, Landon Donovan and Tim Howard.
Under terms of the agreement, AP Images will have unique access to shoot and distribute pictures from every match, which will be played in six U.S. cities and one European city and culminate with a championship match at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium on Aug. 7. Photography, available via the newly designed APImages.com, will include action shots, as well as pregame warm-ups and postgame reaction.
“AP is pleased to have been selected by Relevent Sports to manage all their photo needs for such a high-caliber sporting event, from shooting pictures to distributing them on our state-of-the-art digital platform,” said Fernando Ferre, vice president of AP Images. “Our world-class photographers will bring the excitement and passion of international football to our customers in the United States and around the world, further broadening our array of sports photography.”
Relevent Sports CEO Charlie Stillitano said: “We are thrilled to partner with AP Images. We can’t wait to see their documentation of the inaugural edition of the Guinness International Champions Cup.”
AP Images has a strong network of media partnerships in news, sports and entertainment. They include relationships with the National Football League (NFL) and the Chelsea Football Club (CFC). AP is committed to growing its partners’ sports business by entering into key partnerships and developing the commercial marketplace.
