Portuguese news agency LUSA has selected The Associated Press to provide international text news for inclusion in its news wire service.
The agreement makes LUSA the exclusive distributor of the AP European News service in Portugal. In addition, LUSA is now a distributor of AP Images, which includes offering archive photos to LUSA’s customers on an ad hoc basis.
Through the deal, AP will enrich its African news coverage by licensing LUSA’s extensive wire content from Portuguese-speaking countries across Africa.
Pedro Camacho, LUSA’s editor-in-chief, said: “It’s wonderful for LUSA to be working with the AP. This is good news for all our clients, because they are going to receive a much wider and more comprehensive news offering, with multiple approaches and points of view about almost everything that matters in the world.”
Alwyn Lindsey, AP’s vice president of sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said: ‘’Being chosen by LUSA as their international news provider reinforces AP’s focus on delivering fast, unbiased news from every corner of the world. Equally important is the benefit our customers will receive from accessing LUSA’s news content, which spans Portuguese-speaking African countries including Mozambique and Angola.”
