The Associated Press, the most trusted source for U.S. elections information, will provide its authoritative vote count, race calls and independent journalism to news organizations, technology platforms and audiences worldwide for the 2026 midterm elections.
AP will count the vote and declare winners in nearly 7,000 races, including over 5,200 contested races, ranging from congressional and gubernatorial elections to state and local contests in all 50 states.
AP has counted the vote in U.S. elections since 1848, combining accuracy and expertise with in-depth reporting that helps audiences understand who won and how Americans voted. The world’s leading media, technology and financial companies around the globe rely on AP for accurate election news and data.
“For nearly 180 years, Americans have trusted AP to deliver the results of U.S. elections accurately, independently and without fear or favor,” said David Scott, AP vice president of elections. “Our team is ready once again to count the vote, declare the winners and provide the rigorous, fact-based journalism our customers and audiences need to understand whom voters have chosen to lead and what the results mean for the nation.”
AP’s coverage will include results and race calls for 35 U.S. Senate contests, 435 U.S. House contests, 36 gubernatorial contests and 5,587 state legislative races.
AP will also provide insights into the electorate’s choices and motivations through The Voter Poll, conducted by SSRS for AP and the major U.S. television networks. Combining in-person exit polls with surveys conducted by mail, phone and online, The Voter Poll captures the views of Americans who vote early, by mail or on Election Day, with results in every state holding an election for U.S. Senate or governor.
With journalists in all 50 states, AP will also deliver fact-based, nonpartisan coverage of the candidates, campaigns and issues shaping Americans’ choices. Coverage will be available on APNews.com.
Additional coverage highlights include:
- A produced election night livestream hosted by AP reporters Meg Kinnard and Sagar Meghani, combining live shots from across the country with analysis, election updates, race calls and live coverage of vote counting, campaign watch parties, rallies and candidate speeches.
