Reporter Ilan Ben Zion, Jerusalem; Ariel Schalit, photographer, Jerusalem; and Sam McNeil, video journalist, Jerusalem, took readers on deep dive into the Mediterranean to see how conservation efforts can revive once lifeless coastlines.

They reported how the state of Israel has leaped ahead in recent years in protecting its Mediterranean waters from fishing and other destructive human activities by turning more and more swaths of it into Marine Protected Areas, which experts say is critical to conserving sea life and the health of seas.
