Using fresh framing, original data analysis and creative visual storytelling, reporters Emma Burrows, John Leicester and Illia Novikov, working with Interactive Artist Will Jarret, delivered a compelling package that connected politics, strategy and the battlefield to explain the latest shift in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

The team framed the story in the context of Ukraine’s evolving relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump, from the now infamous White House meeting where Zelenskyy was told that Ukraine had ‘no cards’ to Ukraine demonstrating that it had more cards than many assumed. Burrows and Novikov worked tirelessly to map the strikes targeting Russian air defenses, oil infrastructure, weapons production, and even major retail warehouses inside Russia while Leicester did reporting to place the campaign in strategic context. Jarrett worked closely with the reporters from beginning to end to build a visually compelling presentation that clearly illustrated the scope and evolution of Ukraine’s deep strike strategy.
