A sweeping, all-formats launch marked the debut of AP’s America 250 initiative — bringing together storytelling, visuals and interactive elements to explore the nation’s past and present.
Months in the making, the project rolled out with a major tentpole package alongside interactive quizzes, games and dynamic landing pages for both the overall series and its “American Objects” feature. The effort combined reporting from across the newsroom to create a multifaceted look at the United States approaching its 250th anniversary.
Coverage ranged from Deepti Hajela’s examination of the tensions between unity and diversity to engaging, accessible quizzes led by Holly Meyer with contributions from subject-matter experts across AP. The visually driven “American Objects” collection added creative depth, while enterprise reporting from multiple desks reinforced the project’s national scope.
Bringing together contributors from eight departments, the initiative showcased coordinated storytelling at scale and highlighted a wide range of perspectives on the American experience.
