With advancements in digital technology, including the rise of the internet, AP in the 1990s pioneered the use of digital cameras and faster delivery systems. This allowed defining images of the decade such as events like the Gulf War, the fall of apartheid in South Africa, and dissolution of the Soviet Union, as well as iconic cultural moments, such as the worldwide mourning of Princess Diana, to reach audiences in near real-time.
